The table below comes straight from each state's published candidate handbook — the same figures our mock exams use. Scored questions count toward your result; pretest questions are mixed in to trial new items and do not.

What the numbers mean for your preparation

  • At a 70% pass mark you can miss up to 30% of the scored questions. On an 80-question exam that is 24 misses; on a 100-question exam, 30.
  • 120 minutes for 90–110 questions is a little over a minute per question. Speed rarely fails candidates — uncertainty on the state-law questions does.
  • In Texas, Florida and Georgia a state-law section is the heaviest single part of the outline; New York's outline is organized differently, with state rules in its Insurance Regulation section and New York specifics throughout. Weight your study time to match.

Where to read the official outline

Each state page links the provider's current handbook. Outlines are revised periodically; if a topic appears in the handbook and not in your course, the handbook wins.
