Key facts for the exam
- The rider covers a named additional life, usually the spouse, for a stated term and amount. It is not joint coverage and does not cover the base insured.
- It is level term coverage on the spouse under the owner's base policy and commonly includes a conversion privilege.
- As the rider expires, the spouse can normally convert to a permanent policy at attained-age rates without new evidence of insurability.
- A family term rider puts the spouse and the children under one attachment, usually with a larger amount on the spouse than on each child.
